mysterious producer kian t is a crazy guy living in a lonely house on a top of a hill somewhere in italy. surrounded by a collection of rare old synths and vintage samplers, a little dog and the best red wine of italy. kian is making beats all day long. that’s his life. he started his career on toy tonics last year and now is back with an own ep - full of that fucked up, jazz influenced cut & paste house sound that is taking over the house world since last year. similar to his friends rhode & brown, fouk, nachtbraker or the guys around oye records in berlin he loves to create this special way of sampling old jazz records and using rare vintage synthesizers instead of digital computer sounds. just listen to a normal deep house records of the last years and compare it with the sound of the kian. using these old synths makes a big difference. you can hear it on every of his tunes: there is no cheap sound here everything is fat and has a very warm, personal, always easy to recognize sound-aesthetic: courtesy of the four synthesizers he uses: the korg polysix, the sequential prophet600, a roland juno 60, and the legendary oberheim matrix 6. and courtesy of the way he mixes his tracks: not in the laptop - but the old way: on a fat old mixing desk. thats why he has that massive sound.

to wrap up 2016, true romance unleashes one more disco stunner. this time the fabulous three tracks 12 comes from the classically trained yet funky to the bone: phil gerus. the russian producer has been a rising force of the modern disco movement with releases on futureboogie, sonar kollektiv, thugboat edits to name a few. the make time ep, his first offering on true romance, confirms gerus is here to stay. the a side, she is wearing her black boots again, is meant to played very loud and very late in a dark smoke-filled room. its a raw thumper with a thick post-disco bass line, robotic italo synth, dreamy chopped up vocals all layered with catchy mysterious chords. the flipside starts with the irresistible make time, a groovy number with loopy funk guitars, soulful vocals and infectious keys that will stick to you like glue. for the grande finale, gerus serves us detective from kamakura: a gritty electronic funk track with banging percussions and delirious moans that will keep you awake until the break of dawn.

bobby analog launches his body fusion imprint with an ep of deep and disco infused house jams. three tracks that slip and slide across the dance floor with ease. chopped vocals, live drums, infectious grooves and crisp hats are the order of the day here.

landing straight after 415-pr10, public releases first in a loose series of san francisco-centric compilations, this three-track 12inch is a further exploration of the bay areas sounds and aesthetics, though here its explored via remixes produced by friends from abroad. the a-side is a complete overhaul, reimagining, and extension of anonstops seaside by thee loving hand, tim goldsworthys solo moniker of choice these days. the ex-dfa records co-founder and former member of unkle took the tunes balearic foundation and used it as a bed for what one might mistake as a lost arthur russell cut from the world of echo era. joel wells lent his airy, light, sweet vocals to the track, while darren morris added synth work to bolster tim’s usual production genius. it’s carefree and emotive, the aural equivalent of a big, toothy smile. the flip features a mix thats a whole helluva lot more intense and uptempo, though no less positive than its original. chidas remix of domination is squarer and housier than beziers piece, which was glitzy classic disco dunked in italo, but enough of it remains to be unmistakably a spinoff. fiery and propulsive in the way a gulfstream jet is, its a ball of thunder that will electrify any set, any dance floor.

hauschka is a composer, songwriter and experimental musician who has brought an exciting new perspective to the prepared piano. the prepared piano – a technique for getting new sounds from the acoustic keyboard by resting pieces of paper or drumsticks on the strings of the instrument - has been used for centuries, but hauschka was unaware of the tradition when he began exploring ways to get new sounds out of his bechstein grand upright.
the vinyl release of “abandoned city” includes a code for free download of the full album and bonus ep “i close my eyes”.

these songs were made over the past 2 and a half years by uchi: luna (january 2016), was named after a talking cat. it s kind of a sad story. you will find some synth sounds, three different kick drums, and a couple hi-hats. it s kind of moody. you can take it as it is, or not. pride is poison (july 2014) ironically, it s titled after experiencing dosages of unhealthy relationships, though it might be the one people like the most. it s sad-ish, noisy, bouncie, and bassie? that about sums it up. inc (february 2016) is titled after the international noise conference, where it was recorded. actually it s a 3 part spliced zoom room recording of a 25min long improvisation, made in a punk bar. the argument here holds, is it really worth it to make perfect music? where is the concept of -live- in techno anyways? it doesn t matter. it s just a semi-distorted recording of a moment that meant nothing to almost no one, and yet it lives.

spain s javi bora has been steadily carving out a name for himself over the past few years holding up a residency at the infamous, now late space ibiza and its kehakuma parties, as well as racking up releases for elrow music, suara, robsoul, 2020 vision and moda black. here though we see him paired with fellow spaniard for a new ep set to be released via london s fledgling spilt milk recordings which has played host to material from the likes of italoboyz, alexi delano and of course its founders tred benedict and st. bernard. title-track bounze takes the lead on the record, laying the foundations with snaking synth sequences, voice atmospherics and robust rhythms before hector moralez and katal step in on the remix. the pair reshape bounze with their own stripped-back distinctive style, opting for floating pads, heavily swung percussion and snippets from the originals spoken parts. ritual rights follows and lays focus on arpeggio 303 tinged bass hits, crunchy drums and subtly unfolding synth leads that ebb and flow throughout the record. the 002 then rounds out the package with dubby stab sequences, soaring pad swells and gritty, energetic rhythms

manchester-born, berlin-based producer setaoc mass returns to his own sk_eleven imprint with his third outing on the cycles ep. here we see the artist’s propulsive brand of techno take on an extra dynamic, starting with the muscular, mind-warping drive of cyber taking control, kunfus reverts back to a highly purified, galvanising techno groove, coalescing crisp percussion and a perpetual stomp to devastating effect, whilst turning over the sci-fi indebted structured deceit adds to the strong release with its mesmerising melodies and ceaseless energy. finished of by the more downbeat, reverb-drenched, insulated mindset of escape from you.

them records welcomes back hiroaki iizuka for the its fifth outing. having supplied the the run as the labels first record, here iizuka doubles its play time and track listing length in his stunning voodoo ep. the extra time offered allows iizuka to flex more of his versatile style. them as a label sets out to eschew a techno norm largely made up of a traditional 4 x 4 sound. having come from a london background, the curating of the label gives a nod to the rave sounds of the capital - especially d&b, garage, breakbeat hardcore and grime. that is to say of course along with its characteristic aesthetic of horror and the gothic.
in iizuka them found a common ground: based in hokkaido, japan, iizuka does not share the same london influences, yet shares their base values and thrust. common themes of his sound involve broken and syncopated beats, and a rave energy. this is what lead him to being the first and prime them stable artist. voodoo ep showcases this breadth of iizuka’s style, from tracks that could easily fit into any grime set, such as primitive acid, to the more melodic tones of floating point, in which hiroaki guides them into previously untrodden ground for the imprint.

last year, an enigmatic name seemed to appear out of thin-air. sam weston was apparently a fresh upstart in the australian house-scene releasing a dusty collection of late-night/early-morning jams aptly titled shiraz voyager. with this rose-tinted house release in hand, weston arrived on the scene and people took notice. the tape sold out within weeks. thing was, sam weston was not a fresh-face at all. he was here all along, although more commonly known as one half of influential sydney techno duo – alba. lorded for their brand of live-fire robotic grooves, alba became trailblazers in a town more miami than berlin, where brooding and rolling hypnosis weren’t often preferred to fist pumping “bangers”. wanting to flex his lovin’ spoonful of hypnotic lo-flung house, weston decided to release a handful of edits on his soundcloud. immediate attention was conjured and sam weston released the aforementioned shiraz voyager ep to a pretty amazing response. almost overnight, australia had a new hero in weston’s warm compositions that summon memories of sunny days and happier times.

acclaimed be as one boss shlomi aber makes a big step up here by putting out a trio of his killer techno cuts on the always excellent and forward looking nonplus label run by boddika. his xy play ep continues in his no nonsense, floor facing style and impresses once more. shlomi aber is an underground titan who runs his own musical empire in the form of his be as one label. he has made it into an essential outlet for no frills house and techno and his own output has found him in fine favour with djs and dancers alike. playing all over the world and also serving as an expert at the emerging ibiza festival on the white isle, here he comes correct once more. the title ep xy play is a brain frying affair with cantering drums and stern synths bringing a dark and intone vibe to the groove. way old story is just as heads down but less ominous, here the synths are a little spooky and add intrigue to his slick rubbery drums. last but not least related sources is a hunched over house track with dub in its kick drums and a desolate industrial feel in the landscapes above. atmospheric from the first to the last moment, this is another killer ep from shlomi aber.

we certainly have a soft spot and a proven track record here at all ears for these kind of magical, mysterious morsels elaborate hoax follow up last year s instant sell out 001 with another fine ep of lovingly mined tracks, expertly reshuffled for contemporary floors from a buried brazilian jazz-funk gem, to a killer early 70 s jam outta france, to a super addictive hot gossip rewire... seek, and ye shall find !

claes rosen makes a welcome return to local talk after his daydreaming release back in 2013. for his new release claes has written a beautiful house jam that s got after hours written all over it. it s melodic, soulful, spiritual but still mighty uplifting. fans of glenn underground or blaze should listen carefully. on the flip we ve got something truly special for all the real house heads - lars bartkuhn & marek bartkuhn aka needs are back on the house circuit. yup, it s true! needs are back once again and agreed to deliver a remix for local talk. back in the late 90 s and early 2000 s needs was a huge breath of fresh air to the house scene with their melodic chicago inspired house sound. the remix delivered here is again something timeless and unique, sounding simultaneously classic and new! it s a real builder, so let this one run its full course. trust us, you ll be rewarded big time!

christopher spraggins & the strange band out of rochester, n.y released a total of one record. a spaced out druggy disco band that had a hint of rick james with a deeper trippier vibe that’s truly unique, reproduced for you here for the first time since 1978. the band was introduced to the world by cleveland unlimited records who still exist to this day, unfortunately as these things go, the record failed to gain sales needed to justify further but a whole lp was recorded, here we bring you the best tracks from that unreleased lp on your favourite format.

octave one announce new album love by machine a year after their impressive last album burn it down, detroit techno legends octave one are back with a nine track double ep that again shows they are masters of big hypnotic grooves. entitled love by machine, the albums name is a nod to the fact that the burden brothers are such revered masters of their hardware. both in the studio, where they cook up atmospheric house and techno with soaring synths and vocals and also in the live arena, where they are celebrated as one of the most accomplished and forward thinking performers in the game today. that is all the more impressive when you bear in mind they have been active since the 80s, most often releasing on their own 430 west label, which is where they appear again here. say lenny: weve been exploring the theme of connection with this project. how technology gives us the illusion that we are closer to each other more than ever. at some point humanity crossed a line where the devices that we created to bring us together are the same devices that are blocking us from organic experiences.

son dexter is a talented producer who released two fantastic eps on larry heard s alleviated in the early 2000 s. his influences are really extensive and diverse: deep house, funk, pop, hiphop, jazz, broken beat, rock, t-bone walker, black science orchestra, miles davis, lenny kravitz, al di meola, the intruders...and you can feel that in this eternity ep. when the canadian artist sent them this 4 tracks ep, the downbeat guys could not believe what they was hearing here. 4 colourful and delicate pearls full of nuances, strength and optimism which reminds us that its possible still to find purity and unconditional love for music. house? soul? pop? just music. nothing more, nothing less.

love notes from brooklyn offers up this platter from a very exciting new brooklyn artist, subtenant. as it says on the tin, the artisanal acid ep is heavy on the 303 squelches and emotional content. each track has a unique pairing of soul and heavy acid funk. evergeen soul is the clear lead track here, using a female snippet to keep this otherwise tough little number dancefloor friendly. this track is then reworked by detroit underground darling, d marc cantu, who pitches things up into funky rave territory. the flip side sees the title track feature the most soulful chords on the entire record, and then on the b2 the artist himself takes to the mic on know how it feels. this whole ep feels live and direct from the brooklyn underground.

rotterdam based 25 places are back on dirt crew with a bang! since their love more release in 2015 the boys have been hard at work and have just released an ep for chez damier on his prescription records sub label balance. the bounce begins with party in the hills hosting a huge kick, loopy rhodes, squelching bass, ragga flavoured vocal and squeaky lead, its straight up good times right from the get go. an infectious groove on this one! closing title song heads into deep soaring territory, its forward house beat and pulsing synth lead intertwine with loose tropical percussion and a rhapsodic horn hook. on the flip we have laurence guy who does not really need an introduction anymore, the man has been all over the place since this years releases on cin cin, outplay and the imminent church where he dropped two big eps bamboo and kojak. here he takes on the soulful deep chicago house of 25 places and turns it into a 90s breakbeat acid galore of ecstasy tingled uk house. 25 places wrap up the rave session with backyard stories, a raw and bouncing, bass face inducing jam. uplifting and dirty in one stroke, its thumping kick and feverous melodies make it impossible not to move.

ltd 20216 repress ! italian producers steve murphy and dj octopus are regular collaborators, and earlier this year released an excellent split ep on chiwax. here, they return to the much adored german imprint with a proper collaborative four-tracker. theres much to admire, from the rush-inducing bounce of opener track 1 and mr lee-ish cheekiness of track 2 (check the 89 style riff, snappy drum machine groove and cut-up vocal samples), to the impeccable depth and sun-drenched warmth of the decidedly wide-eyed track 3. arguably best of all, though, is track 4, which reimagines sir james 1990 strictly rhythm classic special as an immersive chicago deep house jam.

trevision is the rare conjunction of the berlin based acts florian meindl, sierra sam and pascal hetzel in the form of a wild & gear-heavy techno live act. this first release is a result of two techno jams: in the studio and in a club using 2 modular setups, a tr909, mpc1000, delay pedal, analog rytm and moog filter. after a small editing and mastering, here is trevision 01.

italian trio raw elements debuts on resopal with two tracks on their alquemia ep. with careful consideration and an acute attention to detail, each of the tracks contributes its unique vision to raw elements first package. the title track is a high-tempo minimal techno number, picking up linear momentum verse after verse while jetlag shows the trios shadowy, percussive style. no matter the time or place, there is something here for everyone. early plays by hawtin and dubfire.

the eleventh modal analysis release introduces umwelt, with his debut appearance on the label. density ep is a 4 track release blending umwelt s unique style which is a perfect fit with the modal analysis aesthetic. industrial meets electro here, and the lyon based producer joins the sound of athens. density #1 fully reflects umwelts skills on enigmatic riffs and fat bass-lines. density #2 and density #3 sneak into the more dance-floor minded record bags, while density#4 feeds a melodic/melancholic feeling whilst hard hitting beats bring it home.
